For our second Saturday morning justtryit adventure, my friend Emily and I headed uptown to Surfset Toronto at Yonge and Eglinton! I’ve seen this studio all over Instagram and I have been dying to try it for a while. The studio is located in a great part of the city, surrounded by cute cafes, vegan restaurants, and juice bars. I was surprised to see so many people out before 9:00 AM on a Saturday, but tons of runners and young families were already out on the town.
We showed up for the 9:00 AM “burn” class and got a quick tour and set up on the “surf boards”. My first impression? This is way harder than it looks. The board, balanced on inflatable balls, is meant to simulate the feel of a real surfboard or SUP. Even just sitting on it, my board was a little wobbly.
The workout consisted of cardio intervals and core intervals. The cardio involved a lot of plyometric moves – burpees, tuck jumps, and jump squats. The core intervals were a mixture of yoga and pilates inspired positions and unique isometric ab moves. And lots of plank….so. much. plank.
I was totally sweaty within about 5 minutes, and was somewhat relieved when the class was over! My back, core and triceps will definitely feel the burn tomorrow!
I definitely underestimated the workout and would definitely go back again! Thanks to our instructor Denise for the great class! Can’t wait to come back and “surf” again!
