Justtryit recently launched, billing itself as “Toronto’s fitness passport”. For $49, the “passport” allows you try one class at any of their partner studios. One passport = 10 classes over 4 months. At less than $5 a class, that's amazing value, considering most Toronto drop-ins are $20 or more!
The Justtryit team was kind enough to set me up with a complimentary passport, leaving me with over 40 studios to choose from to “sweat somewhere new”! When it comes to fitness – I’m pretty adventurous. I love trying new studios and different types of fitness classes. In a city as expensive as Toronto, it can be cost-prohibitive to sign up for even short-term memberships or class packages – especially if you don’t know if you’ll even like the studio or class yet!
I recruited my friend Emily to join me, and we decided to kick off our Justtryit experience on Saturday at CYKL! I have an on-again-off-again relationship with spinning. Aside from a few SoulCycle classes on recent vacations, I haven’t jumped on a bike since last year.
It was a gorgeous day so I decided to forego the streetcar and ran the 5km distance from my condo to the studio, arriving 20 minutes early. Registration was easy – I just needed to provide my Justtryit number and sign a typical waiver. Mallory at CYKL helped set me up with spinning shoes, and got me fitted on the RealRyder bike. I had read about these bikes before the class – they let you steer and lean, simulating the feel of a real road bike.
Elke was our instructor. I was amazed by her energy level, given that it was her second class of the day! The ride was 45 minutes in total, consisting of hills, sprints, and lots of time out of the saddle. I WAY underestimated how much harder the RealRyder would feel than a normal stationary bike – my core and upper body are still feeling the burn. The class was 45 minutes, after which I was totally drenched. I unclipped from the bike with shaky legs and laughed at myself when I realized I still had to run home!!!
Overall I can confidently say that my class at CYKL was the best spin class I have ever attended! The facility is great, the staff is extremely helpful, knowledgeable and non-judgmental. I left with a ton of endorphins and positive energy. I will 100% be going back! I’m so glad I could try it out with my justtryit pass before I committed to it though.
I was pleasantly surprised to see that justtryit has studio options all over Toronto, but also in Mississauga near my office. Working in the ‘burbs means the gyms and studios near me often get left out of these types of programs. I’ll be trying out one of the Mississauga studios this week. In Toronto, I’m most excited to try out Surfset and MyoDetox performance.
